In Großbritannien ist Timo Maas die Nummer eins unter den ausländischen DJs. Dass das Sprichwort mit dem Propheten, der im eigenen Lande nichts wert ist, auf Timo Maas zutrifft, ist unbestritten. Sein erstes wahres Artistalbum Loud zeigt das ungewöhnlich breite Spektrum des Hannoveraners. "Help Me" ist als sphärischer Einsteiger wie geschaffen: Die Laidback Grooves mit der Stimme von R'n'B-Ikone-Kelis wechseln sich mit melodiös-trancigen Technobeats ab. "Manga" geht in … mehrdie Maass'sche Technokerbe, während "Hash Driven" in Richtung Air tendiert: ein zurückhaltend wabberndes, aber doch melodiöses Klangerlebnis. Minimal, perkussiv und ohne erkennbare Melodie geht "Hard Life" zur Sache. Ganz anders "That's Now I've Been Dancin'", das mit souligen Vocals und schmeichelndem Piano glänzt. Die Übergänge zum jeweils nächsten Track sind geschmeidig: Das kurze, gesprochene Interlude "We Are Nothing" lässt "Old Skool Vibes" recht zackig beginnen. Das verliert sich allerdings im Laufe des Songs in ein mittelmäßiges technoides Etwas. Auf "madonnaesque" Shantigrooves setzt die Instrumentalnummer "O.C.B.", die wunderschön ist, obwohl ein paar Vocals nicht geschadet hätten. "To Get Down" und "Ubik" zeigen die rockige Seite von Maas: Gitarren, Drums und die grungigen Männervocals sollte man in angemessener Lautstärke hören. Wieder zurück auf die Ebene der Beats und des Clubsounds geht es mit dem monotonen aber hypnotischen "Like Love", das auch einem Herrn Väth gefallen dürfte. "Bad Days" entlässt den Hörer mit chilligen Downbeats entspannt aus dem Album. Loud lässt keine Wünsche im elektronischen Dancebereich offen: empfehlenswert! --Mark Hartmann weniger
