Upon initial hearing, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Sarah Connor's Unbelievable comes complete with sexual transmitted diseases as hidden tracks, such is her blatant promiscuity. Indeed, the only thing unbelievable here is the woman's voracious sexual appetite. However, there's a certain refreshing honesty too--whereas Christina Aguilera and Holly Valance sell slickly produced pop songs using sex, Sarah Connor sells slickly produced pop songs about sex. You don't … mehrfeel as manipulated (or shameful) when listening and she doesn't have to resort to stripping off completely in her videos. The focus is more on the songs, rather than the packaging, and they're actually rather good. The haunting seduction of "The Love Permission" displays more depth and sly hooks than half of the teenage pop America has produced in the last five years and both "Beautiful" and "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" are what a post-orgasmic Shania Twain might sound like if she dropped the comedy from her act. A little too submissive for most hyped-up, right-on teenage feminisers perhaps, but there's no denying the quality Europop on offer here. Quite what Wyclef is doing on the supremely dumb "One Night Stand" is another matter though--the weakness of men can be a terrible thing sometimes. --Ben Johncock weniger
